Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the pressure inside the eye increases to an unacceptably high level, thereby causing damage to the optic nerve and, as a result, loss of vision. If your doctor has classified you a glaucoma suspect, it means that your intraocular pressure may be higher than normal and/or the appearance of the optic nerve in one or both of your eyes shows some evidence or suspicion in regard to glaucoma.

HAVING BEING DIAGNOSED AS A GLAUCOMA SUSPECT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE A PROVEN VISION LOSS OR THAT YOU WILL DEVELOP GLAUCOMA. It does indicate, however, that your chances of developing glaucoma are greater than someone who has none of these findings.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR EYES CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS AND TO MONITOR THE SITUATION. It may mean that you never need treatment or that no treatment is needed for many years, but regular visits to your eye doctor are necessary.
